Is CoolSculpting Right for Me?

Who Can or Should Get CoolSculpting?

Dr. Ali has helped hundreds of people in Oakland County get the body they love with CoolSculpting. One of the questions he is asked most often is “Am I a good candidate for the CoolSculpting procedure?” In this article we discuss who will benefit from CoolSculpting treatments.

CoolSculpting Works for Women and Men

The CoolSculpting procedure works equally well for both men and women. Although men and women tend to store fat in different areas, CoolSculpting can be skillfully applied to give women a more feminine shape, while offering men a more masculine or muscular appearance.

CoolSculpting Age Requirement

Technically, there is no firm age limit at which CoolSculpting can be performed. However, it is not appropriate for people whose body has not finished growing and developing. For this reason CoolSculpting is rarely performed on people younger than 18 or 19.

Additionally, a patient must be 18 years old to legally consent to CoolSculpting. In those extremely rare cases where someone under 18 is seeking CoolSculpting, parental consent would need to be provided.

As for an upper age limit, even women in their 80s can successfully enjoyed the benefits of CoolSculpting – as long as they are in good health and have clearance from their regular doctor!

CoolSculpting and Weight Loss

CoolSculpting is not a weight loss procedure, and is not appropriate for obese individuals. CoolSculpting freezes stubborn, isolated pockets of fat.

The ideal CoolSculpting candidate will generally be within 30 (to maybe 40) pounds of their ideal weight – but have areas of excess fat and/or noticeable bulges in certain areas they’d like to get rid of.

CoolSculpting and Medical Conditions

CoolSculpting is a non-surgical and non-invasive procedure, which requires no incisions and no anesthesia. However, it is still a medical treatment. For this reason, anyone with an underlying medical condition should consult with their personal physician before scheduling the procedure. You should also inform Dr. Ali of any medical conditions you have.

A small number of medical conditions do completely preclude CoolSculpting altogether, including: cryoglobulinemia, cold agglutinin disease, or paroxysmal cold hemoglobinuria.

If you have any preexisting medical conditions, it’s important to talk to your doctor before scheduling CoolSculpting procedures.

CoolSculpting Areas of the Body

In the United States CoolSculpting is FDA-approved for the treatment of visible fat bulges in the thighs, abdomen (belly fat), flanks (love handles), back (bra rolls), buttocks (hips), and upper arms, as well as bulges in the submental (chin and neck) area.

In some cases Coolsculpting can also be used to remove fat in “male breasts” (gynecomastia). However, if there is a lot of breast tissue, liposuction or other treatments might be a better option to remove the actual male breast tissue.
