Brazilian Butt Lift Surgery: How to Enhance Curves Safely

Get a Beautiful, Bigger Butt with BBL

Over the past decade, there has been a noticeable shift in beauty standards and body ideals, particularly when it comes to the desire for a fuller and more curvaceous posterior. The trend towards “bigger booties” has gained significant popularity, with A-listers, and influencers contributing to its mainstream appeal.

Celebrities such as Jennifer Lopez, Kim Kardashian, and Beyoncé have been instrumental in popularizing the curvier figure with the bigger ‘behind’. Their confident embrace of their natural curves, coupled with their influence on popular culture, has played a significant role in reshaping beauty ideals. These iconic figures have celebrated their voluptuous figures, challenging traditional notions of beauty that once favored a slender physique.

Some celebrities have even openly discussed undergoing Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) surgery, which has further propelled the popularity of this procedure. Cardi B, Iggy Azalea, and Amber Rose are among the celebrities who have openly admitted to undergoing BBL procedures to achieve their desired aesthetic. Their openness about their experiences has helped destigmatize the conversation around cosmetic procedures, sparking curiosity and interest in achieving a fuller and more defined buttocks.

However, it is important to note that while the desire for a curvier figure has become increasingly popular, it is crucial to prioritize health and safety when considering any cosmetic procedure. Brazilian Butt Lift surgery, like any surgical procedure, carries risks and should only be performed by an experienced, board-certified plastic surgeon, like Dr. Ali.

Origins of Brazilian Butt Lift Surgery (BBL)

The term “Brazilian Butt Lift” is believed to have originated from the cultural emphasis on voluptuous curves and the perception of beauty in Brazil. Brazilian women have long celebrated a fuller and more rounded buttock appearance, which has influenced the development of this surgical technique.

Brazilian Butt Lift Surgery (BBL) Procedure

The Brazilian Butt Lift involves a combination of liposuction and fat grafting (fat transfer) to reshape and enhance the buttocks. The procedure begins with the collection of excess fat from areas such as the abdomen, hips, or thighs using gentle liposuction techniques.

The collected fat is then carefully processed and purified to isolate healthy fat cells for transplantation. Then Dr. Ali strategically injects the purified fat into different areas of the buttocks to create a fuller, rounder, more contoured and lifted shape.

Brazilian Butt Lift Surgery (BBL)Recovery Period

Following a Brazilian Butt Lift, patients should expect a recovery period that typically spans several weeks. Immediately after surgery, patients may experience swelling, bruising, and discomfort, which can be managed with prescribed medications.

It is crucial to avoid sitting or lying directly on the buttocks during the initial phase of recovery to protect the newly transferred fat cells. Patients will be advised to wear a compression garment to minimize swelling and support the healing process. Strenuous activities and exercise should also be avoided for a few weeks to allow for proper healing.

Is Brazilian Butt Lift Surgery (BBL) Safe?

Undergoing a Brazilian Butt Lift – or any plastic surgery procedure – requires careful consideration and research when choosing a plastic surgeon. BBL is a complex procedure with the risk of serious complications if it is not performed by a highly skilled plastic surgeon.

The media is full of several tragic stories about BBL patients who have died due to “cut rate,” “back ally”, or out-of-the-country butt lift procedures that resulted in a FATAL fat embolism. This is when fat gets into the bloodstream, travels through the blood vessels, and gets stuck, which creates a blockage. This causes a disruption to the blood supply that can be lethal.

This is why it is of the utmost importance to only choose a board-certified plastic surgeon who possesses the necessary training, skills, and expertise to perform the Brazilian Butt Lift safely and effectively. Board certified plastic surgeons like Dr. Ali in the Troy, MI area have undergone rigorous education and training in plastic surgery, ensuring they are well-versed in the latest techniques, most advanced methods and safest protocols.

To begin with, an experienced plastic surgeon prioritizes patient safety by meticulously evaluating if the patient is a good candidate for a safe BBL. Dr. Ali will ensure a thorough understanding of the patient’s health and medical history and take all necessary precautions to minimize complications during and after surgery.

Best Brazilian Butt Lift Surgery Results

Each patient’s body is unique, and an experienced plastic surgeon recognizes the importance of tailoring the procedure to individual needs. They consider factors such as body proportions, existing buttock shape, and patient goals to achieve natural-looking results that complement the patient’s overall physique.

In the hands of an inexperienced or unqualified practitioner, the Brazilian Butt Lift can pose problems such as shape and contour irregularities. Choosing a board-certified plastic surgeon with a proven track record not only reduces the risk of complications but also ensures beautiful results – without lumps, bumps, dropping, or uneven proportions.

Build a Better Butt with BBL (Brazilian Butt Lift)!

BBL – The “Fat Transfer” Butt Lift

A fat transfer butt lift, also known as a Brazilian butt lift or “BBL”, is a cosmetic surgery procedure in which fat is taken from one part of the body (usually the abdomen, hips, or thighs) using liposuction, and then injected into the buttocks to increase their size and improve their shape. The procedure is designed to give the patient a more youthful and attractive buttock appearance.

BBL More Popular Than Ever

According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), Brazilian Butt Lifts (BBL) were the second most popular cosmetic surgery procedure among women in the US in 2020, after breast augmentation. Additionally, the ASPS reported that the number of BBL procedures performed in the US has increased by a staggering 252% between 2012 to 2020. So, it’s likely that a significant number of women in the US have undergone a fat transfer butt lift.

Many celebrities have admitted to having a Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) procedure. Some celebrities who have publicly discussed their BBL surgery include:

  • Jennifer Lopez
  • Kim Kardashian
  • Nicki Minaj
  • Iggy Azalea
  • Cardi B
  • Amber Rose
  • Blac Chyna
  • Michelle

These are just a few examples of celebrities who have publicly discussed their BBL surgery. It’s likely that many more celebrities have had the procedure but have chosen not to publicly disclose it.

Are Brazilian Butt Lifts (“BBL”) Safe?

Brazilian Butt Lifts (BBL) are considered safe when performed by a qualified and experienced plastic surgeon in an accredited surgical facility, like renowned board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Ali at AMAE in Birmingham, MI.

However, as with any surgery, there are risks and potential complications associated with BBL. Some of the risks include bleeding, infection, anesthesia complications, poor healing, asymmetry, and dissatisfaction with the results. However, the most serious complication associated with BBL is fat embolism, which occurs when the injected fat enters the bloodstream and causes blockages in the lungs or other organs. Although it is rare, fat embolism can be life-threatening.

This is why it is essential to only have a BBL performed by an accredited, board-certified plastic surgeon with years of experience – and not by someone who is just a ‘cosmetic surgeon’, ‘general surgeon’, doctor or nurse practitioner. When considering a BBL, ALWAYS ask the surgeon if they are an accredited “board certified plastic surgeon”.

It’s also important to note that the surgery’s results can be affected by the patient’s health status, weight, and overall lifestyle, therefore it’s important to maintain a healthy lifestyle before and after the surgery.

How much Bigger can a BBL Make my Butt?

The size of the buttocks can be increased by a Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) procedure, but the final results will depend on the amount of fat that can be harvested and transferred, as well as the individual’s body shape and proportions. In general, the procedure can increase the size of the buttocks by one to two ‘cup sizes’.

It’s important to note that the BBL procedure is not designed just to increase the size of the buttocks. It’s more commonly used to lift and enhance the shape and contour of the buttocks. A skilled plastic surgeon like Dr. Ali at AMAE Plastic Surgery in Birmingham, MI can make the buttocks higher, more rounded, and with greater projection – which also gives the appearance of making them much larger.

Scars After a BBL

A Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) procedure typically involves two small incisions, one for liposuction and the other for the fat transfer. These incisions are usually made in inconspicuous areas, such as the bikini line or just above the buttocks crease. The size and location of the incision will depend on the individual’s body shape and the amount of fat being removed.

As with any surgery, there will be some scarring after a BBL procedure. However, the incisions are small and well-hidden, so the scars should be minimal and not very noticeable. The scars can be further minimized by following the post-operative care instructions provided by your surgeon, including avoiding sun exposure and using sunscreen on the scars.

Who is a good candidate for a BBL?

A good candidate for a Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) procedure is someone who is in good overall health, has enough excess fat in other areas of the body to use for the fat transfer, and has realistic expectations about the surgery and its results.

The ideal candidate should be at or near their ideal weight, with adequate and healthy fat deposits in other areas of the body, such as the abdomen, hips, or thighs. The procedure is not recommended for individuals who are significantly overweight or obese, as the excess weight can affect the results of the surgery and increase the risk of complications.

Individuals who have lost a significant amount of weight, or are planning to lose weight, should wait until they have reached their goal weight before considering a BBL procedure.

It’s important to be aware that smoking, certain medical conditions, and certain medications can increase the risk of complications and slow down the healing process. Therefore, it’s important to disclose any health issues or medications to our plastic surgery team before the surgery.

Downtime after a BBL

There is some downtime associated with a Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) procedure. The recovery time will depend on the individual’s health, the extent of the surgery, and the body’s healing process.

After the surgery, the patient will need to take some time off from work and other activities to allow the body to heal properly. The recovery time can range from several days to a few weeks, and the patient may experience some pain, swelling, and discomfort during this time. We will give you a prescription to manage any discomfort.

During the first week or two after the surgery, patients will need to avoid sitting or lying directly on their buttocks as it can affect the results of the surgery. Additionally, patients should avoid strenuous activities and heavy lifting for several weeks after the surgery to allow the body to heal properly.

Patients will be advised to wear compression garment to help reduce the swelling and discomfort. They will also be given instructions on how to properly care for the incisions, how to change the dressing if necessary, and how to properly clean the incision sites.

It’s important to follow the post-operative care instructions provided by the plastic surgery team at AMAE Plastic Surgery in Birmingham, MI to ensure a smooth recovery and to minimize the risk of complications and ensure the best possible outcome.

Alternatives to BBL

At AMAE Plastic Surgery in Birmingham, MI, Dr. Ali also offers butt lift surgery – without implants or fat augmentation. Butt lift surgery (gluteal lift) improves the shape and tone of the underlying tissue that supports the skin and fat in the buttock area without the need for implants of fat grafting.

Sculptra is a filler that can be injected into the buttocks that immediately adds volume and also triggers the body’s production of new collagen over time – for natural, long-lasting results. while Sculptra does achieve the more dramatic results of surgical implants or BBL fat grafting, it can be an excellent nonsurgical procedure to add lift, shape and volume to the buttocks without surgery.

Buttock Augmentation Surgery vs. Butt Lift Surgery

The Differences Between Buttock Augmentation & Butt Lift Surgery

It’s no secret that a full, shapely bottom is very in style right now! Kicked off by the Kardashian sisters in the early 2000s, the trend of a larger shapely behind is now en vogue with actresses, celebrities, and influencers, as well as everyday people.

For women born without a shapely behind, a variety of surgical treatments can give them the “butt” that nature and heredity did not. Buttock Augmentation (gluteal augmentation) and Butt Lift surgery can both be used to improve the contour, size, position and/or shape of the buttocks.

In this article board certified Birmingham, Mi plastic surgeon Dr. Ali discusses the differences between Buttock Augmentation and Butt Lift surgery to help you decide which is right for you.

Buttock Augmentation Surgery

Buttock Augmentation is a surgical procedure that enhances the “butt” through the use of buttock implants, fat grafting (transferring the patient’s own fat), or sometimes a combination of the two.

Butt implants are silicone-filled devices that are surgically placed deep within the tissues of the buttock. While butt implants can give a fuller and more rounded look, they are limited because they only deliver volume to one specific area of the behind –and cannot be sculpted and contoured. Buttocks implants also tend to feel less natural than when the body’s own fat is used.

Buttock augmentation with fat grafting involves the transfer of fat from one area of the patient’s body into the the buttocks. This is sometimes referred to as a Brazilian Butt Lift. Buttock fat transfer can increase fullness, roundness and the projection of the butt. Typically fat is obtained by the plastic surgeon via liposuction from unwanted areas (such as the belly or thighs).

It is essential that any buttock augmentation – whether implants or a Brazilian Butt Lift fat transfer – be performed by a very skilled and experienced board certified plastic surgeon. Improperly performed butt augmentation surgery has potential for complications such as infection, capsular contracture (scar tissue formation), and wound healing problems. Butt implants can also become displaced or cause worse sagging over time.

Butt Lift Surgery

For the above reasons, many board certified plastic surgeons prefer butt lift surgery to buttock augmentation or Brazilian Butt Lift surgery.

Butt lift surgery (gluteal lift) improves the shape and tone of the underlying tissue that supports skin and fat in the buttock area. In many cases sufficient enhancement of the buttocks can be achieved with butt lift surgery – without the need for implants of fat grafting.

Aging, pregnancy, weight gain or loss, and hereditary factors can contribute to poor tissue elasticity that can result in sagging of the “butt cheeks”. Similarly, estrogen decline in women and testosterone decline in men can result in a loss of muscle mass that can also cause the buttocks to lose volume and tone that results in sagging and dropping.

During butt lift surgery, excess sagging skin is removed – and a higher, smoother and more pleasing contour is created. If fat removal is required, liposuction is sometimes added for better contouring. While a traditional gluteal lift will not make the butt larger, it can make it higher and rounder as well as improve a dimpled, irregular skin surface.

A Third Option: Sculptra Butt Filler

Sculptra is a relatively new filler that can be injected into the buttocks. The Sculptra provides a framework that induces the body to grow its own collagen around the product. Since the body is producing its own, new, living tissue the results last several years (rather than a few months like traditional fillers).

However, the results of are more subtle than butt lift or augmentation surgery – and cannot remove excess skin or fat from unwanted areas. Sculptra also generally requires a few sessions to get the full effect in larger areas like the buttocks to achieve sufficient results.

Profound butt lift

Profound: the New Non-Surgical Butt Lift

Profound: The New Non-Surgical Butt Lift

Profound Radiofrequency Microneedling is a new, advanced procedure that is capable not only of tightening the patient’s skin, but can also dramatically increase volume, plumpness, and elasticity in the treatment area. For these reasons, when applied to the face, Profound Radiofrequency Microneedling is occasionally referred to as the non-surgical facelift. At AMAE Med Spa in Birmingham, MI, when used to tone and tighten the buttocks, the procedure is sometimes referred to as a “non-surgical butt lift”.

In this article, board certified Birmingham, MI plastic surgeon Dr. Ali discusses the many benefits of the Profound Butt Lift, providing prospective patients with everything they need to know about this remarkable new procedure.

How Profound Non-Surgical Butt Lift Works

The incredible, non-surgical results of the Profound Butt Lift are achieved through the use of cutting-edge radiofrequency technology. Using a specialized method of microneedling, the Profound delivers radiofrequency energy to the deepest dermal layers of the treatment area. The Profound Butt Lift is capable of directing radiofrequency energy directly to specifically targeted layers of skin, enabling Dr. LAi to firm, tighten, lift and contour the buttocks,

The clinical grade needles used to penetrate the skin of the treatment area are of an extremely fine width, which allow for the radiofrequency energy to reach deep within the dermis. This thermal energy triggers what is known as the “thermocollagenesis” effect, wherein the natural healing processes of the skin stimulate the production of collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid. As the skin cells are regenerated, patients experience tighter more youthful skin – and plumper more shapely and voluminous curves.

Profound Non-Surgical Butt Lift Results

Profound butt lift patients can typically expect to see visible results from their procedure as rapidly as four to six weeks after treatment. And over the course of the following three to six months, the dramatic, long-lasting results of the Profound butt lift only continue to improve.

At AMAE Plastic surgery & Med Spa, we take great pride in offering personalized care that meets the needs of everyone in the lively and diverse Birmingham, MI community. Unlike many older laser treatments, Profound Radiofrequency Microneedling treatments- including the Profound Butt Lift – can be safely performed on patients of any and all skin colors and tones.

Despite only taking about an hour or so to administer, the Profound butt lift provides an impressive roster of benefits. With minimal to no side effects, the Profound butt lift can:

  • Lift and tighten the skin on the buttocks
  • Eliminate loose, saggy skin
  • Add plumpness and volume
  • Reduce the appearance of cellulite
  • Improve appearance of stretch marks

Profound Non-Surgical Butt Lift Reduces Cellulite

In addition to toning, lifting and tightening the buttocks, Profound also reduces the appearance of cellulite.

The unsightly, rippled appearance of cellulite is known to develop on bodies of all shapes and sizes. In fact, the amount of fat a person has does not determine whether or a person will get cellulite at all. Instead, it is the result of the specific way one’s body holds certain fat deposits. Fortunately for anyone in Birmingham, MI with concerns about cellulite on their backside, the Profound butt lift can provide relief.

The dermis and the muscle are connected to one another via fibrous cords of tissue called septae. The septae forms a vertical pattern with small pockets of adipose (fat) tissue filling up the uneven sections between them. When the fat cells are pushed towards the surface of the skin, the dreaded lumpiness of cellulite becomes visible. But through the Profound butt lift, saying goodbye to cellulite is as simple as booking at appointment at our Birmingham, MI medical spa.

At AMAE Med Spa in Birmingham, MI, we offer Profound skin tightening treatment as a non-surgical way to achieve many of the same benefits of traditional butt lift surgery – without the pain, expense or downtime. How a Brazilian Butt Lift is Performed

The Brazilian Butt Lift Process –

Bloomfield Hills area board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Ali has helped hundreds of women get a firm, toned, shapely behind with Brazilian Butt Lift Surgery. In this article he explains the Brazilian Butt Lift process.

Take a moment to read the information below. Then call Bloomfield Hills double board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Ali for a consultration – and finallyget the beautiful curves you’ve always wanted with a Brazilian Butt Lift!

Step #1. Brazilian Butt Lift Extraction

First, the patient’s body fat is sucked out of unwanted areas using a small tube by liposuction. Common locations to extract fat are the back (directly above the butt), the stomach area, the flanks or “love handles” and the thighs.

So, in addition to getting a rounder buttocks, the patient also receives the benefit of a smaller waist and/or thighs!

A fine thin cannula (tube) is used to remove the fat in order to get smooth even liposuction results. If a large cannula is used, the fat will come out faster, but the liposuction results may not be as smooth.

Step #2. Brazilian Butt Lift Processing

Next, the extracted fat is processed and purified through centrifugation – which spins the cells to remove unwanted body tissue, dead or unhealthy cells and toxins or debris.

This procedure doesn’t just transfer fat, but rather transfers the cells that store the fat. This way the fat cells survive in their new location, and continue to store fat in the patient’s behind.

For this reason, laser liposuction, ultrasonic liposuction, and even power assisted liposuction are less ideal, as they all will damage more fat cells.

Step #3. Brazilian Butt Lift Re-Injection

Once purified, the surgeon will use only the best donor fat cells to be reinjected into the butt. This is where the doctor’s skill, experience and and artistry comes into play!

Typically, hundreds of tiny microinjections of fat, at various depths, are made to ensure that the fat is distributed evenly and attractively in the buttocks. . If the fat is injected in large quantities at once (instead of small quantity injections), it may not take permanently.

Previously, surgeons implanted the fat into multiple levels – below, within and above the muscle. However, it has been determined that injecting the fat below the muscle puts a patient at an increased risk of serious complications from potential blood clots. Today, the safest and most reputable plastic surgeons like Dr. Ali approach the procedure cautiously and conservatively and only insert the fat cells above the muscles.

Make sure you only consult with a board-certified plastic surgeon who is well-experienced with Brazilian Butt Lift procedures.

What Is a Brazilian Butt Lift?

What Is a Brazilian Butt Lift?

Birmingham board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Ali has helped hundreds of women get a firm, toned, shapely behind with Brazilian Butt Lift Surgery. In this article he explains the Brazilian Butt Lift.

Take a moment to read the information below. Then call Bloomfield Hills double board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Ali for a consultration – and finallyget the beautiful curves you’ve always wanted with a Brazilian Butt Lift!

A Brazilian Butt Lift is a procedure that transfers a patient’s own fat cells (usually from the abdomen, “love handles,” back or thigh) to their behind area. A skilled plastic surgeon effectively “sculpts” the body by removing fat from unwanted areas (using liposuctions) – and then using that fat to plump and round the buttocks.

A good candidates for a Brazilian Butt Lift should be close to their ideal weight, but have enough fat to be removed by liposuction, for injection into their behind.

Buttock augmentation by way of fat transfer (Brazilian buttock lift) is usually performed under general anesthesia as an outpatient procedure with patients going home the same day.

Brazilian Butt Lift Techniques

Brazilian butt lift techniques can vary greatly from surgeon, to surgeon. And while the procedure sounds pretty straightforward, it can be very risky if performed improperly by a doctor who is not skilled.

Dr. Ali is a double board certified plastic surgeon who has performed hundreds of Brazilian butt lifts safely and without complication. This is because Dr. Ali takes a very cautious and conservative approach to Brazilian butt lift surgery.

How Long does a Brazilian Butt Lift Take?

Because of the meticulous way the fat has to be extracted through a fine tube (liposuction), then processed, and finally reinjected using hundreds of injections, the Brazilian Butt Lift procedure is time consuming.

Typically, a Brazilian Butt Lift will take from 2 to 6 hours, depending on the amount of liposuction performed and the amount of fat to be reinjected into your buttocks.

Generally, the liposuction of 3 areas takes a minimum of 2 to 3 hours. The fat processing varies but some of it can be done simultaneously. And then the fat reinjection typically takes a minimum of 1 to 3 hours.

A Brazilian butt lift always happens in three stages: harvesting or extraction, processing, and re-injection.

Celebrities Who have had Brazilian Butt Lifts

Celebrities Who have had Brazilian Butt Lifts –

In the early 2000’s it was often said that that Jennifer Lopez did for the “rear end” what Pamela Anderson did for the “front end.” Today, with the popularity of the curvy Kardashian sisters, shapely buttocks have received more press coverage than ever before.

Buttock augmentation – or a “butt lift” – can reshape and improve the appearance of the entire lower back and buttock region.  Many celebrities prefer a “natural” Brazilian Butt Lift over artificial Butt Implants.

A Brazilian Butt Lift is accomplished by performing liposuction of fat from other areas of the body – and then transferring the fatty tissue into the buttock area to create a rounder, perkier appearing buttock.

This type of “fat transfer” is favored over artificial “butt implants” because it gives a much softer, natural result. This type of surgery can improve both size and shape of the buttocks, as well as achieve a more proportionate hip-to-waist ratio for the most feminine curves.

A “Brazilian Butt Lift” will not only reshape the buttock region, it can also reshape the entire lower back and hips in order to creating an overall more aesthetically pleasing silhouette and body contour. A skilled plastic surgeon like Dr. Ali can sculpt the body to achieve the most attractive and feminine proportions.

Has Kim Kardashian Had a Brazilian Butt Lift?

Perhaps the celebrity currently most famous for her voluptuous backside, Kim Kardashian has denounced rumors that she’s had butt implants. But she has never denied having Brazilian Butt Lift injections.

Kim famously even revealed x-rays of her famous behind to “prove” there were no implants! But, while silicone implants would show on an xray, a Brazilian Butt Lift would not since it is composed of the body’s own fat.

Whether Kim was born with her beautiful butt – or whether she achieved it with a butt lift – she has inspired thousands of women to get the same shapely curves with a Brazilian Butt Lift!

Iggy Azalea is another celebrity with a shapely derriere who denies getting butt implants. But fans, other celebrities and plastic surgeons alike have all noticed the improvement in the shape and size of her buttocks! Wendy Williams even called her out on national TV asking her when she was going to admit to that she’s not fooling anyone!

Virginia Gallardo Had a Brazilian Butt Lift

Gorgeous Argentinian super model and dancer Virginia Gallardo has been one of the few celebrities who has been openly vocal about her successful Brazilian Butt Lift. She has been quoted as saying Brazilian Butt Lift has made her feel more confident in her body – and has allowed her to express herself more within her modeling work.

Amber Rose Probably Had a Brazilian Butt Lift

Those killer curves on model and “Dancing with the Stars” celebrity Amber Rose are assumed to be the result of a Brazilian butt lift by plastic surgeons who have examined her before and after photos. Take a look yourself, and you will easily see that her figure has changed dramatically from 2015 onwards to include a much curvier and more shapely behind.

Brazilian Butt Lift Recovery (Part One)

Brazilian Butt Lift Recovery (Part 1)

How long is the recovery from a Brazilian Butt Lift?

Everybody heals differently. Ability to heal can depend upon age, overall health, genetics and how extensive your procedure was.

Brazilian Butt Lift patients generally take anywhere from 5 days to 2 weeks off from work to recover.

Birmingham Double Board Certified plastic surgeon generally recommends that patients avoid sitting directly on their buttocks for at least two weeks. After that, sitting on a “boppy” type pillow, is recommended to put pressure on the thighs instead of the butt.

Patients will generally be advised to wear a compression garment for up to six weeks after their Brazilian Butt Lift to decrease bruising and swelling and to help loose skin retract.

The general swelling will generally improve substantially after two weeks. It may take four to eight weeks to improve completely, and the underlying inflammation from the liposuction can last several more months.

Activity After a Brazilian Butt Lift

It is generally recommended that strenuous exercise be avoided for about a month to six weeks. This enables the newly transferred fat cells an opportunity to survive long-term.  Light aerobic activity and weight training can typically be resumes few weeks after surgery, with your Dr.’s permission.

However, movements like gentle stretching and walking can assist in the healing process and should typically begin the day after your procedure. Dr. Ali will provide you with specific after care instructions.

Generally patients are also advised to sleep on their sides or their stomach during the first couple weeks.

It is always important to follow your doctor’s specific instructions for after care to achieve the best results.

Will I have a scar from a Brazilian Butt Lift?

Brazilian Butt Lifts involve harvesting fat via liposuction using small tubes (“cannulas”) that are inserted into the skin. The incision needed for these cannulas are less than a centimeter wide – so you will be left with very tiny scars.

For the first few months after a Brazilian Butt Lift the scars will be red and possibly raised and/or firm. But over time the scar will becomes soft, pale, flat, and barely noticeable.

However, if you are prone to hypertrophic scars or keloids, or these scars run in y our family, you should inform your doctor before your Brazilian Butt Lift.

Always use sunscreen, and avoid any prolonged exposure to the sun for at least two months, as UV rays can darken scars’ appearance. You may also ask your doctor about using a scar lightening cream, or laser treatments, to further minimize the appearance.

Who Can Get a Brazilian Butt Lift?

Who Can Get a Brazilian Butt Lift?

Most individuals who are in good health are candidates for a Brazilian Butt Lift to improve the appearance of their behind.

A Brazilian Butt Lift transfers your own fat cells (usually from the abdomen, “love handles,” back or thigh) to your behind area. Therefore, a good candidates for Brazilian Butt Lift should be close to their ideal weight but have enough fat for liposuction.

The skin in the areas from which the fat will be removed needs to have good elasticity, as well, to avoid sagging after the liposuction.

There is not an age limit for a Brazilian Butt Lift, as long as you are in good health, with good skin elasticity. Many of our Brazilian Butt Lift patients have gotten the shapely “behind” they have always wanted with a Brazilian Butt Lift in their 40s, 50s and even 60s!

What If I Don’t Have Enough Body Fat for a Brazilian Butt Lift?

People who do not have enough fat to transfer – but are otherwise good candidates for Brazilian Butt Lift – may in some cases need to gain 10 to 20 pounds prior to surgery.

However, if you are a very small, thin, or underweight individual with low levels of overall body fat, you may not be a candidate for a Brazilian Butt Lift. In these cases, implants or Sculptra injections may be your only option for enlarging your behind.

Who Can’t get a Brazilian Butt Lift?

As with any cosmetic surgery, if you have any underlying heart or lung conditions, or neurological disorders, you may not be a good candidate for a Brazilian Butt Lift. If you have any medical conditions, including diabetes, breathing problems or heart disease, it is important to consult with your personal doctor to determine if you are an eligible candidate for surgery.

Patients with anemia may need to take iron supplements and achieve a healthy blood count before any surgery – including a Brazilian Butt Lift.

Additionally, patients who are unable to adhere to the proper rest and recovery period after the surgery, should wait until they are in a position to recover before considering a Brazilian Butt Lift.

Pregnancy and Brazilian Butt Lifts

If a patient is pregnant or planning on getting pregnant in the near future, it is advised to wait until after giving birth and finishing breast feeding before undergoing a Brazilian Butt Lift.

However, if you’re planning on having children several years down the road, should be able to have a Brazilian Butt Lift now. Neither the liposuction nor the fat transfer affects your fertility, and do not pose a risk to future pregnancies.

How Much Does a Brazilian Butt Lift Cost?

How Much Does a Brazilian Butt Lift Cost?

The total cost of a Brazilian Butt will vary according to how much fat must be removed, from how many areas, and where it will be re-injected.  In addition to the physician’s fee, the cost also includes anesthesia, operating room costs and all post-operative office visits.

The average total cost of a Brazilian Butt Lift is around $8,000 to $10,000. However, keep in mind that liposuction body sculpting (abdomen, waist, hips and thighs) is included with the procedure. So it’s like getting two procedures for the price of one!

Doctor Ali will offer you a consultation to determine the actual number of areas which need to be liposuctioned, in order to achieve your appearance goals.

The type of butt lift surgery you choose affects the total cost. A traditional butt lift is more expensive, since it requires the plastic surgeon to remove tissue, tighten underlying muscles, and trim excess skin. Butt implants (which use silcone butt pads) are also more expensive than a Brazilian Butt lift, which uses the patient’s own body fat.

A highly qualified board certified plastic surgeon with extensive expertise and experience may cost slightly more up-front. But they can save you money in the long-run since they provide a safe surgery, with excellent outcomes with a much lower risk of complications.

Where you have your butt lift surgery done also affects the price. Beverly Hills, CA surgeons, for example, charge considerably more for Brazillian Butt Lift surgery than do plastic surgeons in the Midwest.  Doctor Ali provides the same level of care and experience at his Detroit, MI MedSpa as celebrity surgeons do in the Hollywood area – at a much lower cost.

The type of anesthesia and sedation your plastic surgeon uses will also affect the cost. This will vary depending on the kind of butt lift surgery you require, your medical needs, and your personal preferences. Doctor Ali will discuss this with you during your consultation.

Additional costs to consider include: pain medications for your recovery, antibiotics as you heal, compression garments, seating pillows and other materials needed to help you heal properly.

Does Insurance Cover Brazilian Butt Lift Surgery?

Typically health insurance providers will not cover any type of butt lift surgery, since this is considered an elective cosmetic procedure.

However, in a limited number of situations, your insurance company may pay for a portion or all of your surgery if excess buttocks skin is causing medical issues such as skin infection. If you believe that you have a demonstrated medical need for butt lift surgery, you will need to contact your insurance provider.
