How Much Does a Facelift Cost?

Asking how much a facelift costs is kind of like asking how much it costs to fix a car – the answer depends upon a wide  variety of factors including how much work needs to be done and who is doing the work!

Facelift prices vary depending on the type of facelift procedure, the skill and experience of the doctor, the facility costs, the anesthetic needed, and even the region you live in. In this article Birmingham, Michigan double board certified plastic surgeon Doctor Ali explains the factors affecting the cost of a Facelift.

The Type of Facelift Procedure

There are several type of facelifts, each of which is designed to address certain signs of aging.

A full face lift typically involves incisions made around the edges of the lower half of the face. The skin of the middle and lower face is loosened and moved and excess skin is removed. The fat and muscle under the skin of the face may also need to be adjusted.

In a mini-face lift, less tissue is moved and removed than in a full lift, with smaller incisions. A traditional full facelift will cost more than a mini facelift, because it is more involved, takes longer and requires larger incisions.

Additionally, newer or more advanced facelift methods, such as endoscopic facelifts, may have a higher cost than traditional procedures.

The type of anesthesia used during your facelift will also affect the cost. Procedures requiring full sedation will cost more than facelifts requiring only local anesthesia. If an anesthesiologist is required to administer the anesthesia, there fees add to the cost of the facelift.

Additional Facelift Costs

In addition to the cost of the anesthesia, the facility where the procedure is performed will affect the cost. Outpatient procedures performed in a surgical facility have lower facility costs than facelifts which require hospitalization.

And, just like houses, restaurants and pretty much anything else, your location will affect the price. Surgeons in high end Beverly Hills may charge two or three times what a Midwest plastic surgeon charges for a facelift.

The Doctor’s Skill and Experience

Finally, highly respected doctors with advanced training will typically charge more than less educated or experienced doctors. However, the extra cost is a small price to pay for excellent surgical results, especially when you are dealing with how your face will look for years to come.

A Maserati costs more than a Mazda – and the same is true of facelift doctors. We have seen some general practice doctors, gynecologists, and even a few dentists try to offer mini-facelifts to their patients – often at reduced rates from what a plastic surgeon would charge.

Keep in mind that facial plastic surgeons like Dr. Ali are certified by the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, which ensures that they have extensive training and are up to date on the newest facelift technology and techniques. A “cut rate” facelift can result in undesirable outcomes including bleeding, infection, uneven features, muscle or nerve damage and even facial drooping or disfigurement.

In short, while you don’t need to go to Hollywood and pay triple for a facelift, it is also something that you should not “cut corners” on!

Third Party Facelift Financing

Because facelifts are elective procedures, they are not covered by medical insurance. However, we do offer several financing options through third party health lenders. These companies often offer fixed interest rates, and in some cases no-interest financing if you pay for the facelift within a certain time frame.  We also accept all majort credit cards – which enables you to obtain your facelift now, and pay it off over time.
