Which Vaginal Rejuvenation Treatment is Best (Part 2)

Aging, childbearing, and hormonal changes from menopause or certain surgeries, can negatively affect female vaginal tissues in ways that substantial interfere with a woman’s quality of life. “Vaginal rejuvenation” refers to a wide variety of procedures that reshape, tighten, refresh or restore the condition of the vagina.

Doctors can help their patients choose from a variety of vaginal rejuvenation treatments – for cosmetic reasons as well as to improve painful intercourse, reduce vaginal laxity and dryness or stop bladder leaks (stress urinary incontinence). Vaginal rejuvenation procedures range from medication (hormone replacement), to exercise (Kegels), to topical ointments (lubricants), to non-invasive radiofrequency treatments, to surgery.

So, with so many options, which vaginal rejuvenation treatment is right for you? In this two part article, Birmingham, MI board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Ali explains the different vaginal rejuvenation options – and why he prefers radiofrequency Geneveve treatment for vaginal rejuvenation.

Non-Surgical Vaginal Rejuvenation Treatment

For almost a decade, lasers and radiofrequency have been FDA approved to treat and rejuvenate lax skin on the face and other areas of the body. Now this amazing technology has been formulated to treat vaginal laxity and atrophy in the vagina, as well!

The vagina, like the face, is made up of skin. And all types of skin rely on collagen for elasticity, tone and overall youthfulness.  As we age, and as female hormone production decreases over time, the skin on the face and in the vagina loses its tightness, and becomes dry, and lax.

State of the art radiofrequency technology stimulates the production of collagen in the vagina – “rejuvenating” the tissue to a more firm, plump, elastic and youthful state. This not only improves sexual sensation and performance, but also stops or substantial reduces bladder leaks due to stress incontinence.

There are currently three types of non-surgical treatments “on the market” being used to for vaginal rejuvenation: CO2, YAG and Radiofrequency. They go by various brand names such as MonaLisa, ThermiVeve and Geneveve.

Renowned Detroit area plastic surgeon Doctor Ali has devoted his medical practice to women’s health and well-being. After studying the various vaginal rejuvenation procedures available, he believes that Geneveve by Viveve is the best, most comfortable and most effective vaginal rejuvenation procedure available.

Geneveve is the ONLY vaginal rejuvenation that only requires a single treatment to restore vaginal health. Additionally, only Geneveve has patented cryo-cooling technology incorporated into the treatment to offset the heat of the treatment for a relaxing and pain free experience.

Vaginal Rejuvenation Surgery

One would think that a highly skilled cosmetic surgeon like Dr. Ali would be a big advocate of surgery for vaginal rejuvenation. However, as a doctor dedicated to women’s health and wellbeing, he believes that Geneveve vaginal rejuvenation is a preferable option to restore tone and tightness to vulvovaginal areas, in most cases.

While some patients may have extreme situations that mandate the use of surgery for vaginal rejuvenation as a last resort, most of our Detroit area patients can achieve the results they desire with non-surgical Geneveve treatment.

Surgical options for vaginal rejuvenation include Labiaplasty, for sagging, overly large, or misshapen labia that are causing considerable discomfort when wearing certain clothing or exercising, and/or interfering with a woman’s sexual self-confidence.

In other situations, surgical vaginal rejuvenation using vaginoplasty can surgically tightens loose or stretched vaginal muscles. Results from this can last for many years, but is not recommended for women who plan to have more children.

Labiaplasty and vaginoplasty are safe and effective surgical procedures for restoring a more normal tone and appearance to the vagina and labia, when performed by an experienced, board certified cosmetic surgeon, like Dr. Ali.

However, unlike Geneveve  vaginal rejuvenation, these surgeries require “downtime” off work of 3 to 5 days, no exercise for 2 to 3 weeks, and refraining from sexual intercourse for at least a month. Additionally, these procedure require anesthetic, stitches and pain meds – and are significantly more expensive than treatments.  While not an optimal solution for every patient, non-surgical vaginal rejuvenation should be considered first by most women before pursuing surgical options.
